Oh, how I love Debian!!In the past two days I've rebuilt one of my work servers as a Debian box (it was previously running Fedora Core)... and I'm just reminded yet again, that Debian is my favorite Linux distro - it thinks like me - it has a purist approach to all things, and is oh so much faster at most admin tasks than Fedora. For example, Fedora's yum insists on updating every darn time you ask it to do anything, whereas Debian's dselect only updates when you tell it to. And yes, I know there are many alternative package managers for both distros, but this is just one example where Debian feels a hell of a lot snappier than Fedora. Another good example is Debian's full adoption of the whole sites-available / sites-enabled and mods-available / mods-enabled architecture for Apache - it's beautifull in its elegance, and of course, great to manage / maintain... whereas Fedora's archaic /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf setup is repulsive (admittedly, Fedora may have fixed this up in the latest versions... hold, let me check my most-recent-Fedora box... nope, Fedora 8 sux just as badly as the earlier versions... I wonder about Fedora 10?). Anyway, this is not meant to be a "I hate Fedora" rant - 'cause honesrly, I think Fedora is all right... it's just that I love Debian oh so much more, and for many many reasons :) Trackback URL for this post:http://bitstirrer.com/trackback/7
